Therapeutic Cupping in Charlotte, NC
Modern silicone cupping combined with customized massage for clients interested in a different way of working with tight or overworked areas.
How Therapeutic Cupping Works
Therapeutic cupping uses silicone cups to create controlled negative pressure that gently lifts the skin and underlying soft tissue. Unlike massage techniques that press downward, the cup draws the skin and superficial soft tissue upward. Cups may remain in one location briefly or glide across an area with lotion, depending on the purpose and the client's response. The sensation is often described as pulling or lifting. Cupping is a helpful tool that can be used alongside other massage techniques during a personalized massage session.
What the Experience Can Include
Clients may choose cupping for broad areas that feel dense, tired, or difficult to address with pressure alone, including the back, shoulders, hips, or legs. Some people enjoy the contrast between suction and hands-on massage, while others prefer traditional techniques. Stationary cups can leave temporary circular discoloration, and skin sensitivity varies from person to person. Cupping is not appropriate over irritated or damaged skin and may not be suitable for people with certain health concerns. Relevant health information should therefore be discussed before it is used.
An Optional Tool, Not an Automatic Add-On
Betsy Burkart NCLMBT #7141, considers cupping only after learning what the client wants from the appointment and how the area responds to regular massage. She explains the sensation, placement, and possibility of temporary marks before beginning. The amount of suction and the time a cup remains in place are kept responsive to comfort, and the technique can be stopped at any point. Cupping may be used for part of a customized massage rather than occupying the entire session. Clients who do not want marks or simply dislike the feeling can receive a complete therapeutic appointment without it.
Not Sure Which Massage Approach to Book?
You do not have to choose the correct modality before your appointment. Additional time is included with your first massage visit to discuss your concerns, pressure preferences, and an appropriate starting point.
